The New Year is approaching quickly and I know we are all excited about the Holiday’s, it is truly a wonderful time of the year! Now is a good time to begin thinking about your business resolutions for 2016. After you have given it some thought, make a plan and place it in a prominent spot. That way, from time to time you will be reminded to assess your progress toward accomplishment. Let’s talk about how to make this a positive year!
If you haven’t already it is time to start planning goals for your business plan next year, a good starting point would be to familiarize yourself with any regulatory changes going into effect next year. For members of the International Trade Community, compliance is always key. So, items to consider include reviewing the product database, C-TPAT assessments, FTA updates and NAFTA Certificates of Origin. Reviewing your automation environment also is important. Are you getting all you need from your current technology? Is it keeping pace with change and adding to the efficiency of your business operation? Throughout the year did you encounter a process that you took note to review later for the possibility of automation? This is the time to take a moment to visit these topics again.
A few suggested resolutions to make 2016 a successful business year include:
- Resolve to update and maintain your Product File for compliance points such as FTA data, pricing and HTS details.
- Resolve to review your current operations for data input and determine where you can further automate processes from your current ERP system.
- Resolve to be prepared for the upcoming C-TPAT Annual Security Analysis.
- Resolve to communicate with your supply chain partners, clients, reporting functionality and PO management. Consider your entire supply chain and how you can integrate technology to make these operations more efficient.
